change motherboard, keep old installation of vista?

After installing vista on a 3 year old PC, I found that I need a newer video
card to fully support aero and some other apps. Apparently the build-in
driver for the old video card is missing some features.

The computer uses AGP video card. I hate to put more money into this
obsolete technology.

Now I'm thinking just replacing the motherboard with a newer one that uses
pci-e video card and even on-board video. I can keep the processor (core 2
duo E4300). This would cost me $100 or so but that's not the most of my
worry.

If I do this, would I be able to boot up the current installation of windows
vista (a lot of the hardware would be different)? Or would I have to
re-install windows vista (and consequently all the other apps)?
