Judy...the last Spy Sweeper that worked with XPx64 and Vista was version 4.5.
Anything in the 5.x range is incompatible, as you found out.
Uninstalling SS is flat difficult, and I can only suggest that you revisit
the registry and look for anything that remotely looks like SS or its parent
company.
Vista (during an upgrade) removes all the programs and essentially does a
clean install, then puts those programs back in. Prior to RC1, any driver
that it does not see as 'signed', it will reject, and will not install back
any of your XPx86 programs that you had. The chances for failure are many.
And yes, those programs must be uninstalled prior to installing Vista.
You may find that you have either lost your XP, or if not, need to clean
install Vista, then manually install the 'accepted' programs.
Last but not least, if your two partitions are one HD, you will be able to
share file between the two OS systems. Good luck.
