Help installing 32-bit XP PRO on existing 64-bit Vista Ultimate

Hi Everyone,

Wishing all a happy new year...

I have HP Pavilion dv9205TX laptop with the following configuration:
64-bit core2duo 2GHz processor, 2G RAM, 2X160G HDD, 64-bit Vista Ultimate on the 1st hard drive (C: )

I want to install 32-bit Win XP PRO SP3 on the 2nd hard drive (D: )

I wanted to know if this is a straight forward installation by choosing the drive letter D: during the installation or do I still need to use the software like EasyBCD or VistaBootPro? Which of these softwares will make my work easy?

Will it be easy to format the hard drive, install 32-bit XP on the 2nd hard drive(D: ) and then proceed with installing 64-bit vista on the 1st hard drive(C: ) (or) the other way around?

Thank you in advance for your valuable input.

I wish you all a great year ahead!!

Cheers,
Mahesh

Save yourself some time/trouble and download Virtual Server 2007 (it's
free). That way, you can load any OS that you want into a Virtual Session
on your Vista machine. You can access all your hardware from the Virtual XP
box, that you'd have trouble finding drivers for.

That's why I don't recommend downgrading, unless you have the drivers
beforehand. I've seen too many failed attempts.

Re: Help installing 32-bit XP PRO on existing 64-bit Vista Ultimate

Hi David,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will be using 64-bit vista ultimate for my personal use and planning to create another admin user & install the virtual server 2007 and then XP PRO SP3 that I'll be using for my office work. Do you recommend me to use Virtual PC 2007 or Virtual Server 2007?

If virtual server 2007, do u think it will support vista 64 bit?
