Serious Vista Error

Hi All

I have been using Windows XP for a while, recently i tried to install a clean version of Vista. All goes well until after I enter the product key. It comes to a screen where i must select a drive for partitioning. However it will not let me and I really have no clue why. I recieve the error below!

"windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation"

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help

P.S I really am an amateur on PC's so please help with easy to follow step by step instructions if possible :-p

Is there a partition on the drive? Did you try a quick format, although
you should not need to? Check the Disk options to see if you need to
designate something.

Re: Serious Vista Error

Thanks for the reply

Yes I installed Vista Correctly, but then repeated the installation to see if I could free up space on my hard drive, when i came to the option of partitioning again I formatted the drive I previously used, which caused the error (previous message).

I hope my explanation makes sense :-s

If your suggestion is your preferred method of chouce, what steps do you think I could take to see if it works?

Thanks again
