Vista 64 Issues

I bought a HP laptop with Vista 64 so are there any issues with Vista 64 I
should know about?

Re: Vista 64 Issues

Just make sure any hardware peripherals, such as a printer,
has 64-bit Windows Vista driver availability.

Not issues, but Vista 64 differences that have resulted in
questions. They may be obvious to you, but here they are.

You will see these directories:

Program Files - 64 bit program files
Program Files (x86) - 32 bit program files

System32 - 64 bit system files
SysWOW64 - 32 bit system files

Also, there are two Internet Explorers, 32 and 64 bit. The default
is 32 bit. Note that there are presently no 64 bit Java or Flash
plug-ins for 64 bit IE. On the Sun Java site you may see 64 bit
Java, but that's for the Java language, not the IE plug-in.

Re: Vista 64 Issues

I am astounded that nearly all low end laptops sold in big box stores are
preloaded with Vista 64.
Users of these machines will never need 64 bit computing, frequently are
confronted with total lack of drivers for recent peripherals and program
incompatibilities.
However since support from these vendors is virtually non-existent why
should the vendors care?
I wonder how many laptops Costco has to take back simply because users are
frustrated by Vista 64 in ways they would not be if the machine was loaded
with Vista 32?
Lack of drivers is one of the main things that torpedoed Vista 32 on launch
and Microsoft is diving into the shallow end of the same pool with Windows
7/Vista SP3.

Re: Vista 64 Issues

I've been running Vista x64 on all my computers, some of them since Vista
was in beta. The only problem I had was with an old Treo phone. Palm still
doesn't have 64 bit drivers. What hardware have you had problems finding 64
bit drivers for.
