Vista Product Key

I downloaded Vista 5600 16384.060829-2230 X64fre client-|r 1cxfre en dvd.sio
installed it and enjoyed it until I attempted to insert the Product Key I
had received via e/mail from MS.
A notice informed me that the Key was invalid for Vista Home Basic.
Is there any way to fix this or do I have to download another Beta VErsion?
Thanks

Re: Vista Product Key

The key you received is only for Ultimate Edition. All editions are on the
one DVD, it is the product key that determines which edition will be
installed when you enter it during install. If during the install, you
elect not to type in the product key, then you get the choice of which
edition to install.

You could try a telephone activation, I have heard that some people have
been able to get a key for the edition that they installed by so doing.

Or you could try the Home Basic for 14 days, then do a fresh install, using
your key during install, which will give you Ultimate Edition.

Re: Vista Product Key

Thank you Jane, that is a fantastic answer. I was asked and could not
comply because the e-mail that contained the key was under WindowsXP on
another partition. I shall do as you suggest in 14 days time.

Re: Vista Product Key

Hi,

you can upgrade from Vista -Home Basic to Ultimate.
- Start Vista HB
- Insert the DVD
- Click on Install and then enter the Key which you have from MS -> Vista
Ultimate

Cheers
