I get this error:

Windows failed to start a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. choose your language settings and then click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator
or computer manufacturer

Re: Windows Vista Installation Problem

you have to boot with the cd,when you get the command prompt, you have to switch to the C: drive. the command is CD\ C:
your new command line should now start with C:
now run sfc as before.
the way you were running it, sfc was checking the files on your cd drive.
