| Vista x64 Ultimate | Solution to vista installation freeze I felt compelled to post this as I know many people have had the same issue so apologies if it has already been done. I've been trying to install Vista x64 for 1 week now! Every time the installation would freeze at 'expanding files 5%...' After trying every possible combination of bios settings and DVD and HDDs I have found a solution! 1. Upgrade and set BIOS to defaults 2. In BIOS disable anything that varies the CPU or RAM voltages e.g. Cool & Quiet. Disable USB, Firewire, onboard LAN, onboard audio (pretty much anything not absolutely essential to the install, I performed the install without a mouse!) 3. Set DVD drive to slave 4.Cross your fingers. Worked a treat for me, entire installation from boot to disc out was 13 mins 35 secs! Good luck |
