| Vista x64 Ultimate | Vista updates stuck or in loop? I've installed Vista 64 Ultimate on a new machine. I installed my network adapter and Vista started downloading updates. Yesterday about 3:00pm, I chose the 'install updates and shutdown. About an hour later I noticed the screen said 'Installng Update 27 or 40...' This moring I looked at the computer and it's at the same place is was more than 12 hours ago. Should I pull the plug or give it more time? Thanks! |

Make sure your Anti-virus program has not disable the active X settings that are needed for WU to validate "Genuine Windows." You might try temporarily disabling your AV program to run the update. On IE toolbar: Tools>Options>Advanced: Use HTTP 1.1 (ON / Selected) + Enable / check to use HTTP 1.1 with proxy servers Tools>Options>Security: Clear (un-check) the check box next to "Check for server certificate revocation" . ( *OFF* ) Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab: Click on LAN Settings > * Uncheck* the Automatically detect settings. Make sure _no other_ settings on this screen are enabled. Use SSL 2.0 (ON / selected) Use SSL 3.0 (ON) Security Tab/ click on green icon Trusted Sites/click Sites button. Click "Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone" to*clear* the selection. In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add these entries to list of "Trusted Sites" -- type http://www.download.windowsupdate.com (click Add) http://update.microsoft.com http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com http://download.windowsupdate.com Click OK. Apply changes & close IE. Now, retry Windows Update. Good luck, CH "mightymutt" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:26eb9553cea6e45786f074d4b13ab2b3@xxxxxx-gateway.com...
