Can't Load Vista Disc For Repair Options

I am definitely going to need help with this one. Hopefully someone knows the answer to my predicament. I have the Home Premium edition and recently I received the following error:

File: \Windows\System32\ntkrnlpa.exe

Status: 0xc0000001

Info: Windows Failed To Load Because The Kernel Is Missing, Or Corrupt

It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair? Any help will be appreciated.

Are you sure you're actually booting from the DVD? Does the optical drive
activity light indicate heavy activity?
Sounds like you are not booting from the install DVD. Recheck your boot
sequence in the BIOS. Do you see a message while booting to the effect "hit
a key to boot from optical drive"? Watch for such a message and hit your
Enter key when you see it. I have seen motherboards that display that prompt
during boot, and if the user doesn't hit a key, bypass the optical drive and
go to the herd drive as the boot device.

Try another bootable disk such as a WinXP install disk or a Linux Live CD
like Knoppix. If the boot order is set correctly and the computer will not
boot from a different bootable CD, then either your optical drive has died
or your motherboard is failing.

Re: Can't Load Vista Disc For Repair Options

I re-verified the boot order was reading from the dvd first, when I restart the pc it even aske me to "Hit Del To Boot From Disc" then that takes me to a meesage that reads "Press Any Key to Boot From CD or DVD" then after I hit Enter the the indicator light on my DVD rom lights up and is supposedly reading from it because I get the "Windows Is Loading File" and a progress bar. After it is done loading then the pc just goes right back to the Windows Boot Manager screen I described earlier.

Re: Can't Load Vista Disc For Repair Options

I don't think its the motherboard because I have a dual boot system that I forgot to mention in the earlier post. I can either boot from Vista or XP and when I boot from the XP then it boots fine with no problems.

And what happens when you:

a) Try the Vista DVD in another computer?
b) Try a different bootable CD/DVD in the troubled computer?

Hi rgranada--

I'm with Malke, and try cleaning your original DVD as well with some
Diskwasher from the center out. Then make sure you go through and try all
the steps below.

You also should have the 4 options available at the Windows Advanced Options
menu by tapping F8 on restarting the PC.

In adition, you can make a startup repair disk by downloading the .iso for
it from this link, and burning it to CD or DVD. Try it as well:

Download Vista Repair Disk
http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/window...disc-download/

1) First try 3 options from Startup Repair. If you have a Vista DVD then
restart with it in the drive>press any key to boot from it and run Startup
Repair. From Startup Repair you have 3 good tools with an excellent chance
of fixing your system. If you don't have a Vista DVD from which to boot to
Startup Repair, no problem, Download the .iso from the link below and
burn it, and you'll have the Microsoft Vista Repair Disk with Startup
Repair.

How to Use Startup Repair from the Vista DVD or the Repair Disk you make:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial142.html

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...f3f351033.mspx

2) If Startup Repair does not get your Vista back, then use the 3 bootrec
commands from the command prompt available on the Statup Repair Menu:

The menu I refer to is in this set of directions with a grey background.

http://vistahomepremium.windowsreins...airstartup.htm

Those are:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuild BCD

3) If my second option doesn't work, then try System restore from the
Startup Repair list.

4) If by rare chance you have an actual Vista DVD, you can put it in, boot
from it>choose the Upgrade Option>choose your current broken Vista Drive and
try to do a repair install with the Vista DVD.

How To Perform a Repair Installation For Vista
Repair Install For Vista

5) If the above 3 tools don't work, then use the 4 tools available by
restarting your pc and tapping F8 once per second to get to the Windows
Advanced Options Menu.

From this menu click on 3 Safe Mode links to use System Restore. Make sure
you try all 3 if one doesn't work, because just one of them may work.
Tap F8 to Reach Windows Advanced Options Menu Pictured Below:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command: At the prompt you would type the command to use for
system restore at the safe mode cmd prompt is:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

If these 3 tools don't work, you have one more you can try which is Last
Known Good Configuration.

Good luck,

CH

Good luck,

Rgranada--

It's a software problem, and try all the steps I gave you.
