    Product key invalid??

I have installed Windows Home Premium. I have tried two different keys
(supplied by MS) and they don't work. What's wrong?

    Hi,
Up to now all the keys provided by Microsoft to the public are VISTA Utimate
    keys.
I've read that some people were successful in telephoning Microsoft to get
keys for other versions but I can not confirm that.

Oh oh. If there was a notice to that effect, I missed it. Know where to find
    the number to call?

The questions asked in here leads me to believe one thing... People do not
read, are unable or unwilling too. First off, there are hundreds of this
topic scattered all over the forums. Try searching first. Secondly, if you
take a little time to read the documentation it will save you time and
    frustration down the line.

Actually, I do read, and I did a search for "product key" and "registration"
and didn't find a clear, authoritative response. (Just because one person
answers with what they THINK is the solution doesn't mean it's gold. I have
seen lots of solutions to other problems in this newsgroup that are pure
fiction.) I also read my setup options and my Vista DVD gave me several, one
of which was Home Premium, so that's the one I took. Now, I acknowledge I may
have missed some other warning to install only Ultimate, but I didn't see it.
Just for my edification, and perhaps for that of others, where exactly was
the instruction to install only Ultimate?

The only reason you were given a choice was because you did not enter a key
when asked to, then clicked on next.
There are 4 versions on Vista on the DVD. It is the key that determines
which version you get. You may be running Home Premium but you can not
activate it unless you have a Home Premium key. It sounds like you have keys
for Premium. If this is the case, you will have to reinstall Vista, use your
Premium key when asked to enter a key if you want to activate.
All of this has been covered many times already.
