| | Installation of vista was cancelled I installed Vista on a second drive, inspected what it had to offer and decided to remove it for the time being. I thought the easiest way would be to reformat the hard drive. It succeeded, however upon start-up I still get the choice to start-up vista or an older version. When I click on Vista the msg reads: Windows\system32\winload.exe failed. Status: 0xc000000F - A search for this winload.exe failed to produce results. I attempted to re-install Vista expecting to re-delete it the proper way. Following the gathering of info, the msg read: This installation was cancelled. Windows cannot install required files for installation. The file is corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are availabe and restart the installation. Error Code: 0x80070017 Thanks -- an old - old guy who tries to keep up! |

| | Re: Installation of vista was cancelled what happened is that Vista changed the boot loader info on your primary drive. You need to switch that back to the XP loader. Boot up on the Vista DVD, choose your language, and then on the bottom left there is a recovery option. Click that. then choose command prompt. you will be at x:\sources try changing to E: - that is probably your DVD drive - there should be a BOOT folder. so CD BOOT then run bootsect.exe /nt52 all /force that should set you back to boot XP. | | RE: Installation of vista was cancelled Thank you Rich and John. I guess the score is John 1 Rich 0 :-) bootsect.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable Progr or batch file. I take my hat off to both of you!
