It may work, but it isn't officially supported, and I would not
recommend it.
But I would never do any upgrade install ...

I did not have to wait that long: I knew the sound card was in trouble
instantly when the upgrade install completed, spent 40 minutes
attempting to repair, gave up doing so and made a clean install. I knew
upgrade install is not a good practice but this time I did it.
