Vista - vista final install problem (error code 0x0)

When I try to upgrade my XP Pro SP2 install with the MSDN release of
Vista Ultimate, I get this message box after about 90 seconds of
"Please Wait" on the blue curtain screen after running setup.
"Windows Setup experienced an unexpected error. To install Windows,
restart the installation. Error code: 0x0"

50Gb free on installation drive. I've unplugged all my USB devices,
and uninstalled VMWare, AVG, and a few other bits, which didn't help.

Any suggestions anyone?

OK, it won't install from DVD at all. I got it to run partially using
Nero 7 ImageDrive, but then it complained about Nero 7 being
incompatible. So I used PowerISO to mount it as a DVD image and it
installed fine from there.
