    0x80070017 during install

    Hi,

I know this has been asked many times - but I still havn't found a solution
    that works!

I downloaded Vista (en_windows_vista_x86_dvd_X12-34293.iso ) from the MSDN
    subscriber area.

I checked the SHA1 value and the downloaded file matches the one listed.

However - I get the following error message:

"Windows cannot copy files required for the installation. The files may be
    corrupt or missing. Make sure
all files required for installation are available, and restart the
    installation. Error code: 0x80070017".

I have made 2 burns of the DVD - neither worked

This is a clean install - not an upgrade.

The same system installed and ran Beta2 just fine (I have formatted this
    system to install RTM)

Any ideas on what to try next?

    Regards

    Hi,

Try reducing your burn speed to 1x or 2x. This is a common problem.

    Hi,

    I burned the 2nd copy at 2x... I will try 1x - but if that works - it's a
    bit of a poor show!!!

I did a couple more attempts last night - it always seems to fall over at
91/92% of expanding files (if that's any help?)

    Hi,

No other real suggestions. The error message is quite clear about what it's
missing. The files on the disk are likely corrupt and cannot be read. If it
were a problem with the drive or antivirus detection in the system bios
interfering, it would stall much earlier.

Did you check the validity of the download. Another possibility.

Do not know if will help with RTM, but experienced exactly same problem
trying to instal RC2 (RC1 & other Betas were OK) from within XP. The CRC/MD5
Hash were Ok as was the DVD. Yet an instal, by booting from the DVD, worked
first time without any error messages. Slower, but it did instal.

    Re: 0x80070017 during install

    Hi,

thanks for all the replies ! - Keep them coming

The download is from MSDN Subscribers area - so is valid - they provide a
SHA1 key to validate the download - this matches perfectly with the SHA1
    generated on my system.

The install is a clean install - booting from the dvd - not through XP and
    is to a clean HDD.

    Regards

    Hi,

I had exactly the same problem after installing Vista x64 over Vista x86.

All I did was repeat the x64 install and select the format partition and
didn't get the problem again (all this with the same burnt media DVD).

    Hi,

    Thanks for the suggestions...

I burnt the image to a DVD-RW instead of a DVD-R and it worked first time
    !!!

    How annoying?
