Unwanted restart even in Safe mode

Today, I granted Vista the automatic installation of a usb driver. Later I
resized its partition (with Partition Magic 8 from within XP) and finally
converted a third partition into NTFS. When I restarted, in the very moment
when it should begin to load drivers, Vista crashed into a bluesceen (for a
second) and rebooted . Same is happening in safe mode.
As a possible remedy, I booted into XP and removed icusb.sys on Vista. Now,
there appears no more bluescreen, but the immediate reboot after loading
drivers still occurs. How to get out of that? Sven

Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode

If you had System Restore enabled, you should be able to restore to a check
point taken at the time you installed the offending drivers. It looks like
you will have to boot from the DVD and get to the System Repair area.

Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode

When I booted from DVD, system repair said after attempting a while,
"automatic repair is not possible". Only a rollback with a drive image,
recently created with a third-party program, helped. Anyway, thank you, Svens

Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode

oops, though rollback works, when I perform chkdisk and re-assign the lost
drive-letter of the partition behind vista, the same boot problem rebegins.
So the cause is not a driver, but the preceding resizement of the vista
partition. News ideas? Sven
