| | Unwanted restart even in Safe mode Today, I granted Vista the automatic installation of a usb driver. Later I resized its partition (with Partition Magic 8 from within XP) and finally converted a third partition into NTFS. When I restarted, in the very moment when it should begin to load drivers, Vista crashed into a bluesceen (for a second) and rebooted . Same is happening in safe mode. As a possible remedy, I booted into XP and removed icusb.sys on Vista. Now, there appears no more bluescreen, but the immediate reboot after loading drivers still occurs. How to get out of that? | | Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode If you had System Restore enabled, you should be able to restore to a check point taken at the time you installed the offending drivers. It looks like you will have to boot from the DVD and get to the System Repair area. -- The personal opinion of Gary G. | | Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode When I booted from DVD, system repair said after attempting a while, "automatic repair is not possible". Only a rollback with a drive image, recently created with a third-party program, helped. Anyway, thank you, Svens "Gary G. | | Re: Unwanted restart even in Safe mode oops, though rollback works, when I perform chkdisk and re-assign the lost drive-letter of the partition behind vista, the same boot problem rebegins. So the cause is not a driver, but the preceding resizement of the vista partition. News ideas? Sven "Gary G.
