| | Installation of Vista from MSDN download I've tried installing Windows Vista x64 from a DVD burnt from MSDN .iso download, but am coming up against the same problem over and over. The PC starts to boot from the DVD, and goes through the screen stating that Windows is starting and loading required files, but immediately after this I get a screen stating that winload.exe is either corrupt or missing. This is BEFORE I have actually installed anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Should I try redownloading the image? Is it possible to mount the ISO as a drive and then run the instal from this instead (in case the image wasn't burnt correctly)? I found that burning the iso to dvd was problematic too. Took several attempts before it worked. Has anyone else had similar problems?? Any advice would be gratefully received!! |

Have you checked the MD5/SHA1 of your downloaded ISO against the information provided on the download page? If not, you should. If your ISO checks out, try a new burn at the slowest available speed of your DVD burner (1x or 2x recommended). If you don't have a utility to check MD5/SHA 1, here's one I've found useful: http://www.slavasoft.com/?source=HashCalc.chm |

| | Re: Installation of Vista from MSDN download How have you tried to install Vista? From within XP? CD boot? Is XP on the computer? Message regarding "winload.exe" usually indicates "confusion" by the system over which OS it is trying to install/boot. | | Re: Installation of Vista from MSDN download It is implied that you didn't burn an image. You burned a file and a file is not bootable. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! | | Re: Installation of Vista from MSDN download Hi :-) When you are going to burn an ISO, you need to select the "Burn Image to Disk", or Burn as Image" in your DVD burner program in order for the file to be burned properly. If you burn it as you would normally burn a regular file to a CD or DVD it will not work properly. You don't mention what program you are using to burn the ISO with, but, if you look in the Help section for burning instructions for image or iso it should tell you what steps you need to do in order to burn the iso. Also, check to be sure that the file has .iso as the extension. If not, then it did not download properly and you need to redownload the file. If it does have the iso, as has been suggested here, burn it at a lower speed, at 1x - 2x, depending on the lowest speed your burner allows. Be sure that you are using the right media and the speed is compatible with your burner. Hope this helps.
