| | Vista Install Error: Computer restarted unexpectedly or encountere unexpected error. It was on the final boot into a fresh install. Blue screen flashed by, did not see a thing before it was gone. This is the fifth attempt at Vista 32bit Business Edition! Disabled everything in the BIOS except the onboard LAN. Config: D945GTPLKR in IDE Mode (RAID off), Pentium D 2.8 GHz. 915 1 GB DDR dual channel Seagate 300 GB 7200.10 SATA HP DVD840 DVDRW IDE (crappy but works) AcePower 520 Watt PSU Cirque PS/2 keyboard and touchpad (to eliminate USB Kb/M) This one is really weird and is my first encounter with a no-go install of Vista. The machine is a data mule that we decided to drop XP SP2 off of as we are migrating everything to Vista and this is the second last one. The components are mounted into a Compaq desktop case cover for quick access to install drives for Ghosting, erasure, and more. Components are all relatively new within the last couple of months and ran XP flawlessly. Any ideas? Thanks, Phil E. MSBS |

| | RE: Vista Install Error: Computer restarted unexpectedly or encountere Since no one else has offered any suggestions, I will take a stab in the dark. Have you updated the bios on your Intel D945GTPLKR motherboard? The current bios release for the Intel D945GTP family is 4034 [NT94510J.86A]. Bios version 4034 was released on November 9th, 2006. You can find the update at http://downloadfinder.intel.com/ When I update the bios on Intel board's I use the iflash utility and a bootdisk. If you are not familiar with how to do this, use the bios update designed for use within Windows. If you are not able to update the bios from within Windows I encourage you to let a technician perform the update. | | RE: Vista Install Error: Computer restarted unexpectedly or encoun Branden, Thanks for your reply. Yes, all of our machines receive a BIOS update as soon as they are fired up for the first time. Now that pretty much every Intel board supports USB flash drive boot, that is the preferred method for us. I now have that machine back in production on XP Pro. I swapped out the motherboard with an identical one thinking it was the board, and we still have the problem. I have another processor and RAM coming for the original board, so, when they get here I am going to try again. If the install passes, then I will blow it away and swap the RAM between the two systems to see if it was the RAM causing the problem. If Vista still installs, then the only other point of failure is the processor. Should happen in the next day or two. Thanks again, Phil E.
