| | Easy Transfer fails to start on WinXP I am trying to migrate from old computer with XP to new computer with Vista. I copied Easy Transfer software to old computer two ways, and neither run far enough to open a dialog. I see three likely processes running, but no applcation. I have XP Pro SP2, so it should run, but does not. Stuck. Any suggestions? |

| | Re: Easy Transfer fails to start on WinXP Tom, Vista Ultimate, downloaded through an MSDN subscription. I have tried network copy, USB flash drive copy and CD copy of Easy Transfer. The first two I launched by double clicking MigSetup.exe, the last one I inserted the CD in the old XP computer and it auto-started. In all three cases I get an initial message that Easy Ttransfer is starting, with a progress bar. This goes away and then notthing else happens. I can find 3 processes that may relate, but no application is ruinning. Oh, and eventually I noticed an entry on the task bar that it was starting up. The XP computer is a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. Thanks for any suggestions, -Jeff "Tom Ziegmann" wrote: > Hello Jeff, > > What build of Vista are you using, and how are you trying to launch Easy > Transfer? > > > > I am trying to migrate from old computer with XP to new computer with > > Vista. | | Re: Easy Transfer fails to start on WinXP Hello Jeff, I'm going to get an XP Sandbox up and running later today, and I'll see if I can get Easy Transfer to run from either USB or CD. I'll let you know one way or the other. Tom > Tom, > > Vista Ultimate, downloaded through an MSDN subscription. > > I have tried network copy, USB flash drive copy and CD copy of Easy > Transfer. | | Re: Easy Transfer fails to start on WinXP Tom, I tried the CD version of Easy transfer on another XP computer and it starts up just fine there, so I suspect something is meesed up on my laptop. | | Re: Easy Transfer fails to start on WinXP Hello Jeff, At this point I have gotten it to work on several test systems, but I don't know what could be causing it to not work on one machine and not the other. -- Tom Ziegmann Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft Core OS TechBeta Tester > Tom, > > I tried the CD version of Easy transfer on another XP computer and it > starts up just fine there, so I suspect something is meesed up on my > laptop.
