30 day activation period

In windows vista, I want to force the automatic activation to delay for the
full 30 days. I need more than three days to familiarize myself with this
software, and don't want to acivate it on my test machine. How do I do that?

Re: 30 day activation period

Uncheck the box for automatic online activation during install.

RE: 30 day activation period

Thank you for the speedy response. Is there any way of doing that without
running through the installation process again?

Re: 30 day activation period

If you didn't enter a pk it can't activate automatically.

RE: 30 day activation period

Hello,
This should work.
It is listed in the volume step by step guide but should apply to retail
activation as well:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/win...n/volact1.mspx

To disable automatic activation attempts, change the registry value
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\SL\Activation\Manual to 1.

Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Re: 30 day activation period

I thought that was the default Darrell, in any install of RTM/ and possibly
prior builds prior to activation.

Re: 30 day activation period

Hello Chad,
During setup there is a checkbox to opt out of auto-activating your machine
after three days..
The box is checked by default so you would have to deselect it during setup
to not atttempt to auto-activate.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
