Vista RTM installation failure

I recieved a copy of VISTA RTM x64 Ultimate edition from my employer for use
with remote PC apps for work and such, however it wont install. first it
gives me a message saying upgrade is disabled, this version of vista must be
installed as a clean copy, boot from DVD. I did so and told the system to
format my HDD for a clean install. however after windows finishes it's pre
install and tries to start for the first time I get a blue screen every time
before it even gets to a sign on screen.

It does this every time I try to install it even on a partition. Dell tech
support told me they couldn't officially help me until Jan 30th.

anyway, I have a Dell XPS 700 with a dual core Intel and one SATA hard Drive.

is there some special way I need to wipe the HDD and do a slow NTFS format
before it installs correctly? I for some reason or another lack the ability
to install windows on an SATA without bluescreen, and if that is the reason,
I cant afford an IDE right now.

a DELL CERC SATA 1.5/6ch RAID controller: "STOP 0x0000007B"

Re: Vista RTM installation failure

Did you install the 64-bit SATA drivers when required during the install.

Re: Vista RTM installation failure

It never asked for those, it seemed to find my HDD without trouble. they dont
have those on the Dell site so I assume it is on the new BIOS update. Are
there third party x64 drivers I need?

Re: Vista RTM installation failure

He's not getting to the Setup screen with the Load Drivers button. It could
be a card needing reseating, a connector needing reseating, or a BIOS
update.

Re: Vista RTM installation failure

There generally are not third party drivers. Carey posted a likely looking
response.

When Vista says it is starting for the first time it is long after the
driver install point. If he is talking about the first reboot, it would
have passed the point where drivers need to be provided also.

RE: Vista RTM installation failure

Did you try running the upgrade advisor to see if you had any compatibility
issues before starting the install? Is there any unnecessary hardware you
can remove from the system before the install attempt? Also, the reboot you
referring to, does it happen during the expanding files phase? You may want
to try running the memory diagnostic tool from the windows recovery
environment too, see if theres anything coming up there.

Re: Vista RTM installation failure

I have found that my PC does infact have that driver filter but tech support
cant seem to find updated drivers without the filter, can someone kindly
point me in the right direction?

RE: Vista RTM installation failure

Ok I know it isn't the disc because Vista will install fine on my spare PC,
but now with the new BIOS update it goes straight to STOP error with the
following info:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0x0000000A etc...
