| | howto analyze fix setup? Hi, I have XP prof Sp2, 2 gyg RAM + Amd Athlon 64, recent machine, so good hardware. The upgrade analyser says that nothing would stop the upgrade, except for SQL Server 2005. In addition, to be sure, I've uninstalled AMD and chipset specific drivers to allow SETUP to leave the default or upgrade. But when VISTA setup has finished, and it reboots for the first time to a Login screen, just before Windows goes graphical (I estimate that, because it happens say 3 seconds after the -green- progress bar shows up!) it gives a BSOD so the setup had been unsuccessfull. How can I analyse which driver is responsable to crash? ps: A fresh setup is not what I want... because then I'll have to reinstall all my licensed software with the risk that MS blocks the license. |

| | Re: howto analyze fix setup? Why did you uninstall the chipset drivers? Vista will install any drivers it needs to. What build of Vista are you installing? Build 6.0.6000.16386 I uninstalled those drivers because I was afraid of 'legacy stuff' issues of third party drivers. So, XP went 100% on MS generic drivers. Anyway, I'm starting to believe that the BIOS, which is AWARD 1302 for the ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard, has a bug. BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS A8N-SLI Premium ACPI BIOS Revision 1302, 12-4-2006 SMBIOS 2.3 Processor x86 Family 15 Model 47 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~2010 Mhz |

However, it IS a problem, the XP-audiodriver is not compatible and makes Vista crash at boot. Uninstall the Audio (realtek) driver from 'Device Manager' Reboot Disable the Audio AC'97 Audio chip. -upgrade. Then if SETUP is finished, re-enable the audiochip and it will install Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 5.10.0.6090 (date 19-5-2006). |
