Default shutdown choice

Is there any way to change the default shutdown setting from Sleep to
Shutdown? In WinXP it sticks with the last usage. In Vista it seems
to always be Sleep. I have the power settings to never sleep, because
it would have to be re-booted when I came back to it from having
switched to a different computer with my KVM switch.

Re: Default shutdown choice

Hope it works on RTM. Doesn't change anything with RC1

My control panel does not have a System & Maintenance, but I found the Power
Options and the Choose what... Unfortunately, The Shutdown button is already
set to shutdown. But, apparently the shutdown choice on the Start Menu is not
the same as the shutdown button, which is a little button that is supposed to
appear somewhere, because the dialog panel it brings up is still set to sleep
by default. Sigh.

Re: Default shutdown choice

If you want the computer to shut down, use the shut down option on the lock
menu, by going to start>arrow key next to lock button>shut down.

Also, here is a link to shut down faq from windows help:

Re: Default shutdown choice

Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Power Options then select 'change plan
settings'. Select 'change advanced power settings', expand 'power buttons
and lid', select 'start menu power button', change to 'shutdown' :-)

Re: Default shutdown choice

Just curious, is there any obscure setting or file you don't know about?
:-))

That worked! Kahloo, Kahlay! Thank you Jane. Things like this should not be
so hard to discover.

Re: Default shutdown choice

:-) I had to install Active Home (still doesn't have 64-bit drivers for the
cameras) to turn the coffee pot on and off. Still have to prepare it
manually. Guess we will just have to wait for the next generation OS. At
one time Bill Gates was talking about Windows and the home automation scene,
but haven't heard anything from Microsoft for several years.
