| | A few vista issues I have a few questions about vista. I heard that nvidia cut support for the nforce2 motherboards, but quite a few users actually got vista to install just fine on that board. Unfortunately I have not been able to. I get right to the part of the setup after vista is copying files and it gets to the boot loading screan with that thingie that moves back and forth. The little boot thingie moves about 2 steps to the right and then everything goes all black and freezes up. So I never actually get to the windows setup. I have tried running the setup as an upgrade to xp, I have tried it booting from the dvd(installs fine on other systems so the media is ok), I have tried it as a customized install and it always freezes up at the same spot. Anyone know what could be causing this? My board is a Abit A7N nforce2. My next issue is work related, while trying to get sysprep working in vista I always get the same error. My master machine is a dell gx620 and I will being using that same image on alot of other dells including laptops. It seems to always either errors out or just freezes up. The image seems to load fine on identical hardware but on any other system it fails. Anyone else got this issue? Also partially related to sysprep, I did go back and check my image and I found one minor issue with my unttend.xml file. For some reason it does not pass the install key to the OS. If I load the image on identical hardware and it works I cant activate. It gives the same error as if I had not entered a cd key. I know that is the issue with that because as soon as I enter the right key it activates fine. Lastly I wanted to know if there was a way with imagex to split the image down to 2gb? The biggest files I could put on dvd are 2 gb files for some reason. I was trying to make a custom setup file once I work out all the sysprep bugs. Sorry for all the questions, it is just that hardly anyone can help me with this because vista is so new. |

| | Re: A few vista issues I have installed, and run, every version of Vista since beta 1 on my Asus A7N8X2.0 Deluxe (nForce2) M/B. In each, and every, instance I have performed a clean install that has included deleting the existing partition, creating a new partition and then formatting said partition. I have never experienced any problems during the install. Vista runs fine here. Remember though that Nvidia has ceased all updates for this class board. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! | | Re: A few vista issues Well see the thing is I never even get the option to format or repartition the drive, the screen goes black before that. If I have used 3rd party partitioning software and tried the install, still got the same results. | | Re: A few vista issues I have the first version of the board. I am starting to wonder if there some setting in the bios that I am missing on this. I just wish I could get some kind of error on this to know what is happening. Also I think I forgot to mention I also get the same freeze up black out when I use a Windows Vista PE disk as well.
