Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

First off, I am a Microsoft fan. I like Vista a lot. But I can't see what
took so long to get it to market? I don't see 5 years of difference between
Vista and XP. XP, to me, was and is, a great OS.

I will continue to use Vista and will use the next OS after Vista but I
don't see that Vista is that great (in comparison). I remember when first
installing XP and after using it a bit, I said 'this is OK.' I really
haven't thought that about Vista. Maybe it's hard to improve when you've got
it right already.

Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

The true test of Vista will be once it has broad market penetration. Then we
will see how effective the security features are. Security is the big
difference between XP and Vista. Aero and the Windows Presentation
Foundation may also make a difference if WPF is adopted by developers. WPF
will run on XP but it's much better when combined with Aero. Note that Aero
doesn't necessarily mean Glass. With Aero and WPF programmers will be able
to create some truly amazing program interfaces. If it will come to be only
time will tell.

Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

XP SP2 was a serious detour, for one thing.

Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

I think this is a stupid report - when was anything ever a finished product
in the IT business at the time of release???

And of course we would expect an update service to deliver updates!!!

Agreed. Five years and this is all they got? I like Vista OK and will use
it too. A little underwhelming though.

Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

And in Aug 2004 development was pretty much restarted, but using the
Sever 2003 base, rather than XP base. That wasted a lot of time in many
ways (although I guess lessons were learnt from the first attempt, and
not a completely waste).

Re: Gartner: Vista Still Not 'Done' - Yahoo! News

All too funny.. MS release IE7, quite different in look, better security,
tabs etc, and all most want is their old IE6 back with the added security of
IE7..

Vista is released with more than a few major improvements, but because the
desktop is similar, people can't see an immediate difference and complain
about the waiting time and start whining with 'what's the point"..

Office 2007 has major visual changes, all for the better it has to be said,
and now people complain that they will never get used to the new format, and
that the typing pool will probably take strike action because of it..

Less notice should be taken of reporting services, most if not all of whom
have a tendency to hunt with the hounds and run with the fox..
