Proper procedure for Vista clean install from XP

I failed an upgrade, so I'm thinking of doing a clean install. I currently
have XP Pro on my system and have a retail Vista Ultimate Upgrade DVD. What
is the exact procedure to do a clean install with the uprade DVD? I only have
one partition and want to wipe it clean for the clean install.
Thanks,
Tom

Perform a "clean install" of Windows XP, then upgrade to Windows Vista.
