Unplug any USB device that you don't need,
but keep your mouse and keyboard.
Any peripherals attached to your computer.
Uninstall any AV, spyware protection, firewall,
any type of software that monitors things. Automatic
disk defraggers... etc. Take everything out of startup.
Do some disk cleanup. Run a chkdsk and check
the option to "fix errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery".
Defrag.
