Vista Upgrade unmountable_boot_volume issue

Dear all,

I recently purchased the Vista Upgrade pack to move from XP to Vista. I
purchased it from the markettrader so it is stored locally on my hard drive.

Upon rebooting to continue installation I end up with the error
Unmountable_boot_volume.

I have tried searching for this term and find a lot of issues for people
upgrading to Windows XP, but cant seem to find a solution that works for me.

I was able to revert back to my XP installation with no problems.

any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Re: Vista Upgrade unmountable_boot_volume issue

Jeff,

As I told another user, you guys are the first in these forums to
use the download and install routine. Even us beta testers downloaded
an ISO and burnt it to a DVD. So, I don't know of anyone who has
tested this type of install. I'm sorry.

Don't expect any Microsoft employee to answer your questions
here. This is really a user support forum, with barely any official
presence from Microsoft.

Call Microsoft.

Take care,

Michael

Re: Vista Upgrade unmountable_boot_volume issue

Dear Michael,

Many thanks for your response - I did call micosoft and as I am currently in
Switzerland for a couple of weeks they will not help me - it is intended only
for US customers (even though I live in the US..)

I called Microsoft switzerland, was told as I downloaded it from the
Marketplace only the US support services can help. The US support services
told me they cannot help and asked me to get in touch with Marketplace for
technical support on redownloading the software.

The download was not the issue, but am stuck in the middle with cash spent
for no apparent purpose.

Thank you though, hopefully someone will find a solution.

Wishing you well,
Jeff

Re: Vista Upgrade unmountable_boot_volume issue

This is usually a driver problem. You probably need to install a driver for
your hard drive controller. What hard drive controller do you have?

Re: Vista Upgrade unmountable_boot_volume issue

Dear Kerry,
I did find those, thank you for your help. Now the downside is as soon as I
installed them, and now suddentlz my raid array failed, one out of the two
drives has gone from member disk 0 to non raid disk.

Hopefully once I have managed to solve this one my pc might finally work
again.

Have a great weekend,
