"Setup failed to open the windows image file" - Many Many attempts

Ok so I have researched this and all the suggestions seem to point to a media
problem but I just don't think so:

This is on a P4 530 J on a ASUS P5S800-VM (Current Updated BIOS)
1 gig PC3200 DDR ram with a WD2500KS Sata drive that was completely
unformated at the start. It has an ATI All in Wonder X800-XL 256MB video
card. This machine was put together specifically to test out vista and
multimedia.

I loaded XP pro with no problem on this setup to make sure everything works
and no problems so I blew away that partition so it was a blank disk and then
started all of this vista install stuff.

I have downloaded the ISO twice. I have checked it using the ISO copy:

# MD5 checksums generated by MD5summer (http://www.md5summer.org)
# Generated 6/9/2006 6:40:30 PM

0e733ab1a8e8ff9a8684fd3639332773
*vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso

I have have burnt way too many copies under different speeds on 2 different
windows machines.

Same problem.

I put another hard disk in the target machine with Linux Suse 10.1 and
copied over the ISO and burnt it on the DVD that will be used to load Vista
and again verifed the MD5 sums on both the ISo and the DVD created.

I do not think that this is a media problem.

it does 100% of the copying files steps (takes 23 minutes)
and then comes up the

"Setup failed to open the windows image file"

I have no idea what to do next?

RE: "Setup failed to open the windows image file" - Many Many attempts

Ok I put in another Hard drive with an operating system in so that I could
see what the heck is going on.

G:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log

Error [0x0600a4] IBS LayDownImage:WimCreateFile Creation Result =
0[gle=0x0000065e]
Error [0x060096] IBS PrepareImageTransfer:An error occurred while
laying down the image GLE = 1630[gle=0x0000065e]
Error [0x060082] IBS CallBack_ImageTransfer:Failed to lay down the
image GLE = 1630[gle=0x0000065e]

Any thoughts on this

My problem seems to be the WD2500KS SATA Drive in the ASUS P5S8000BVM mother
board. I put another partion on the WD1200 IDE PATA drive that I had linux
on and it installed vista to that ok.

RE: "Setup failed to open the windows image file" - Many Many atte

This might sound silly, but I used the DVD media instead of the ISO in my
Virtual Server; I am using this product to test my Vista Beta on my XP
machine.
I was using the ISO and it did not work and gave me this error but then I
burned the ISO to DVD media and then it worked.
Hope this helps

RE: "Setup failed to open the windows image file" - Many Many attempts

FollowUp: Ok I moved the WD2500KS drive to An ASUS P5GD2 board as the
primary SATA drive and vista installed with no problems. Just doesn't like
the ASUS P5S800-VM... Now it will not recognize the CMedia build in sound on
the ASUS P5GD2 board so I need to find a driver.

I also installed in on a Toshiba M70-DL4 laptop using linux 10.1 to resize
the existing windows xp partion. It installed fine. I had to update the
audio drivers after the fact. It has problems playing a DVD. I put in a
retail DVD that I own and it told me DRM was insufficient.

So lots of driver fixes are required.

0/3 as far as a clean working install but it is beta although this feels way
more like a Beta 1 release than a Beta 2 release.

I think Gartner group was right when they said expect delay to 2nd qtr of
2007.

Still I am grateful to get this beta copy and be able to start understanding
how it works and where to expect problems.
