Error message?
Module involved?
BCCode?

Crystal ball's in for repairs today, so you'll have to give specific
information as described here: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Hello Rick Rogers

Error message:

BSOD STOP c0000218
{registry file failure} \systemRoot\system32\config\security or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

My Setup is as follows:

Vista Ultimate 64.

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 3.3)
GPU - Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB
HDD - 2 x 320GB SATA2 Segate
RAM - 1GB Sticks (x4) 1.8v 800MHZ 5.5.5.12

I have been running with 2 sticks in slots 1 + 2 and also 2 sticks in just slots 3 + 4 without any problems. As soon as I go to 4 x 1 GB, or within one or two reboots I get the BSOD.
I have nothing overclocked.

edit: I am now running with 3 GB as I am fed up trying to sort this out.

Hi,

What does Gigabyte state about the maximum memory capacity of this board?
Do you have the option to remap around the memory hole enabled?

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Hi Rick,

ERROR MESSAGE:

BSOD STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The Registry cannot load the hive (file):
\systemroot\system32\config\security
or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

MY SETUP IS AS FOLLOWS:

Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 (rev. 1.0)
GPU - ATI 2900XT 512MB
HDD - 2 x 320GB SATA2 Western Digital
RAM - 4x 1GB OCZ DDR2 800mhz

MODULE INVOLVED:

Nothing specific. I'm in the same boat as Mick_B, doesn't matter which
slot or ram module is in use. Works fine with 2GB, but not 4GB.

I checked the Gigabyte website and it clearly states that my mobo can
run up to 8gb ram using DDR2 1066mhz

Mobo Link: 'Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6'

Thanks.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Hi,

Try swapping the 2GB you are using out for the 2GB that you are adding and
see if the system boots ok. I suspect that you will find that either the
additional 2GB is faulty, or that it is incompatible with the original 2GB.
0xC0000218 is a common result of memory parity errors.

Hey,

I have tried swapping them around many times with no success.

I'm sure its not the RAM. My thoughts is either mobo or Vista.

Hi,

Install all 4GB, then run the memory diagnostics. While each 2GB may be
fine, they may not be compatible with the other 2GB.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

But all my ram is the same brand/ model, and I bought all 4gb at the
same time.

How does that work??
