I have tried using all BIOS versions available including the new beta
version that is out with no luck.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Gigabyte finally got back to me. Useless questions and no real
suggestion of any thing that hasn't been done before.

This was my first venture into a non-ASUS mb.....do I regret that
decision now. As there is little help from gigabyte on the matter I
think its a throw away job and return to a ASUS mb to fix the issue.
Its not like I'm even oc'ing.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Yes, I recommend you hang on a bit. I use ASUS mbs and prefer them to
others but Gigabyte is recommended by quite a few so wait some more and
see if an answer pops up.

well this mb is almost useless...one out of 20 restarts with 4g in it
works...memtest works flawlessly for 4 straight days response from
gigabyte support is non-existent....should I say bloody hopeless.....on
the weekend this board is going to the trash.

I wonder if it's a defective board? Can you get them to replace it?
Maybe a new one would work properly.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

I'm having the same STOP: c0000218 , but with a different GIGABYTE
mobo:

Vista Ultimate 64-bit
GA-965GM-S2 (rev. 1.0)
8800 GTS 640 MB
4 x 1 GB
Raid 0 (2 x 400 GB Seagate)
Latest F7 BIOS

I have tried reinstalling windows, and I have all the latest drivers
(in nVidia's case I have the latest beta drivers) and windows updates.
Used seagate's disk tools to verify the hard drives were still ok, and
memtest to verify that the memory checks out.

I've tried the drivers from GIGABYTE and the drivers straight from
Realtek and JMicron (the raid chip manufacturer).

Sometimes I simply can't get windows to boot multiple times, but if I
run chkdsk /F from the windows DVD console, that lets me boot for a
while.

I'm going to try disabling virtualization and EIST (I think EIST is
what causes the long startup beep).

C'mon GIGABYTE, fix your motherboards.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

agree it appears that its deffinitely a ggabyte mb issue....and
gigabytes support is so pathetic that it would take 2 yrs for them to
respond enough to do anything....when I first logged my complaint it
took 2 weeks to get anything back. Then they ask silly questions turn
around time for the silly questions is a bit over 7 days....so....its
going to take forever to try and sort anything out with gigabyte
support.

The fastest solution is to just trash gigabyte and go with another
board from a different manufacturer....its pretty plain and simply that
gigabyte just aren't up to it at all. Strange how they seemed to have a
reasonable rep but this obviously isn't earned from their support of
their product.

MB's are cheap really compared to the price of new ram....just throw
gigabyte away and buy something else.

I've left my memory on test for 4 days again just to make sure.....all
passes even after 4 days of continous running.....

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

well gigabyte have come back with nothing really...suggested I update
the marvell eeprom...which i did hasn't solved anything. Took my RAM
and stuck it in an ASUS mb with vista ultimate and that ran perfectly
for 24 reboots.

Stick ram in the gigabyte board and vista reboots....and continues to
reboot...take 1 gig stick out and it boots fine.......

guess that gigabyte is just a dud mb and I should have stayed with
ASUS....seems I've done my money. Last time I try gigabyte. Off to buy
a ASUS board this week.

Oh...and gigabyte customer service sux well over 4 weeks to get 3
responses with meaningless dribble in them that didn't fix or ask
questions that I said where already done....pathetic really.
