I'm sorry you had such awful results with Gigabyte but I can't quarrell
with your choice of ASUS, I don't think I'd want to use any other MB.
I did a LOT of research before buying my current computer and one thing
that sold me was that HP uses ASUS MBs in the model I now have.

gigabyte mailed me a beta version of bios...tried that still no
improvement. The last message from gigabyte was basically a goodbye
message saying return the board to the supplier if it still doesn't
work....guess I'm off to get a asus board instead of wasting my time
and money on gigabyte....won't be going back and trying this again in
the next few years.

Good news! Maybe it's fixed? I sure hope so, Gigabyte has been
reported here and elsewhere as being a good board so let's hope all
will continue to be well.

I'm still loyal to ASUS but when I considered updating rather than
buying a whole new computer, I considered Gigabyte because it seemed a
better deal for the money. As it turned out, buying a whole new
computer was cheaper than trying to upgrade so I didn't have to make a
decision....

Did you run a memory test? That's probably the first place to look for
BSOD problems, next is to update video drivers.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

"seanneko": I'm glad that I found this thread!!

It finally confirmed that I am not alone with this problem and that the
only solution seems to be to run Vista 64bit with maximum 3GB RAM if you
want to run with RAID on the GSATA-ports...

My setup is:
MB: GA-P35-DQ6
Graphics: MSI 8800GTS320
PSU: Corsair HX 620W
RAM: Currently 3 GB of Corsair TWIN2x2048-8500C5D Dominators but I have
tested sooooo many different memchips and even in different
combinations..
CPU: Intel Q6600 Quad Core with G0 stepping.
HDD: 2xWD5000ABYS i RAID 0 on GSATA ports.
Case: Antec Ultimate P182B with Noctua NF-S12-1200 fans
CPU cooler: Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme with Noctua NF-S12-1200 fan
Graphics cooler: Zalman VF1000-LED
DVDs: 2xOptiArc AD-7170S on Intel ICH9 SATA ports
OP: Vista Ultimate Edition 64 bit

I have even got the motherboard replaced, all my different memory chips
replaced but still the same problem. As soon as I run on maximum 3GB
booting works fine without the BSOD just before the login screen...

Has anobody out there yet got a fix for this from either Gigabyte or
JMicron?

By the way, has anyone yet tried the new driver version 1.17.31.0 dated
10th dec 2007 that can be found at JMICRONs website/ftp at
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/Win2k_xp_Vista/

I think I'm gonna try it during the weekend hoping it doesn't mess my
RAID setup totally... I am tired of backing up... restoring and/or
doing clean installs now... :-(

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Gigabyte's response was basically that they can't reproduce the problem
and I should send the motherboard back to be replaced.

I don't think they actually bothered to test it - either that, or they
set the computer up, booted it just once and said that it's fine.

I gave up with the problem and changed my system drive to a single 74GB
Raptor. I still use the RAID1 array as a secondary drive and haven't had
any issues yet. As long as your boot drive isn't running off the RAID
ports, it seems to be fine.

Re: TOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure): how to fix it in Vista Ulti

Ok I will email Gigabyte too and tell them that my MB has been replaced
twice and all my memchips replaced twice with no success. I have even
tried with other brands but still no success...

I will also probably go for the same solution as you and have a
separate single boot disk connected to the ICH9 SATA port until (which
they probably won't though) Gigabyte fixes the problem...

It is ridiculous that they can't reproduce and fix this issue since it
is so many people that has the same problem. I have seen at least 10-20
users of Gigabyte MBs here in Sweden that has the same problem and
everybody get's it to work when they go down from 4GB to 3GB...
