Black/stand by screen when trying to boot

I see alot of these posts here but none have any solution that works.

It will go to the black screen when I either boot normaly or when I try to
boot from cd right after finishing loading files. I had to install vista
through safe mode. Also for some reason now I can't even run in safe mode, it
just displays my mouse an the safe mode text around the screen.

I ran with boot logging and I can see that it ofcourse loads up the core
drivers but right after it loads disk.sys all the others don't load but some
apparently still do. I would post the log but its way to long.

Please if anyone has had this problem replay with your solution. Also let me
know if you wish to have more information about my system if you need it.

Thank you.

Re: Black/stand by screen when trying to boot

I actually have completed installation through safe mode. I could get to my
desktop through safe mode but not normally, but now I can't do either.

Re: Black/stand by screen when trying to boot

Start in safe mode and disable your display driver vista will start with
standard vga driver.. I had the same problem with sis 650 integerate
graphics card. vista installed the driver as sis650 xddm driver. but it
didnt work. i have to install my old win xp driver to make it work.

i hope it should be problem with display driver.

RE: Black/stand by screen when trying to boot

Same problem here. I installed the 64-bits version on a brand new Compaq,
Pentium D, 2GB, ATI X1300 machine in the second partition. After install I
have been able to play around in Vista, everything looked fine.

After my first install I started Windows update which installed a missing
ASUSTEK Mercur Capture Device, but said it was not able to install a wireless
network card. It needed a reboot though and after this, the black screen
stared at me. I tried to use the restore options from the install DVD, even
went into command line mode to manually run the ATI installation program,
downloaded from their site. But every reboot, safe or not, ended up in the
black screen.

So I decided to do a second fresh install on the same partition. The install
process found the old install and moved it to a windows.old directory. But
the same problem stays: after a first reboot a black screen, although the
session directly after the install worked fine.

Grrrr.....
