| | Backup won't connect to a NetCenter NAS When setting up backup under Backup Status and Configuration->Set up automatic file backup, I select On a network. Next I enter the UNC path I want to save the backup to. When I press Next, I get an authentication dialog. When I enter the username and password, I get an error dialog with the following message, "The network share could not be accessed for the following reason: No mapping between account names and security ID's was done. (0x80070534). Please insure that the network location is valid." The NetCenter can't be joined to the domain, but it does allow specifying a workgroup. That is set to match the domain. The same logon credentials work when connecting through Explorer. Anyone know why authentication fails? Bruce |

| | Re: Backup won't connect to a NetCenter NAS It might not be an authentication problem. When I was beta testing Vista, I found out that that Vista [around RC1, so this info might not be current] backup could only use network shares if run froim the command line. -iceeagle "Bruce Wilkinson" <brw-texas@community.nospam> wrote in message news:6BB63A9A-F956-46D2-A347-27E93AFFFE47@microsoft.com... > When setting up backup under Backup Status and Configuration->Set up > automatic file backup, I select On a network. | | Re: Backup won't connect to a NetCenter NAS The backup utility allows specifying a network share or burning to a CD or DVD. When I specify the network share, I run into the authentication issue. How do I run backup from the command line? The executable is not good old ntbackup.exe, but sdclt.exe. If sdclt is run from the command line, it brings up the GUI interface. I tried using /? to get help, nothing runs. Bruce "iceeagle" <iceeagle1112@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:eL4r0cEVHHA.4404@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > It might not be an authentication problem. | | Re: Backup won't connect to a NetCenter NAS Having the same problem which I thought may be caused trying to backup my notebook to NAS on home network and the notebook is setup on domain at work. | | Re: Backup won't connect to a NetCenter NAS I had the same problem with my NetCenter. After some troubleshooting I found a solution in another forum; http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...60925&SiteID=1 > If any of you are having problems with Vista logon to NAS devices > running Samba, try: > > Run secpol.msc > > Go to: Local Policies > Security Options > > > Find "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" > > Change Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" > to > "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" > > Vista defaults to only send the more secure NTLMv2 protocol, which > these NAS devices / Samba do not support. After these changes it works OK. Hope this works out for you guys too.
