| Guest | Re: Can't wake after sleep/Hib. Hi Carey, I have the same problem, and I had installed the update you gave, but still can“t get my laptop to awake after sleep mode. Any other thoughts? I have a brand new Acer Aspire laptop running Vista Home Premium. Thanks a lot in advance, Armando "Carey Frisch [MVP]" wrote: > Reliability update for the USB stack in Windows Vista > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925528/en-us > > -- > Carey Frisch > Microsoft MVP > Windows - Shell/User > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > "CbtAbn" <CbtAbn@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:393DFC34-C8D1-44B1-86CA-8B13F1BDD1A6@microsoft.com... > After going into sleep mode nothing will wake machine up. Auto run w/ cd-rom also a no go. Hammer on > side of case just made me feel better. > =========================== You might take a look at your motherboard's CMOS settings; during a cold start, or a restart, you'll want to tap the key that is designated for forcing entry into the CMOS configurations (different systems have different keys for this, <DEL>, <ESC>, <F1>, etc; check your system docs to see what your key is for this). Once you've entered your CMOS, go to the "Power Management Features" screen; look to see if you've got an option "Call VGA BIOS at S3 Resuming." Normally set to "Auto," this may be what's apearing that the system isn't coming out of sleep mode. Try setting this to "Enabled," allowing the BIOS to call VGA BIOS to intialize the VGA card (or circuitry) when the systems wakes up (resumes) from S3 sleep state. Anyway, this is a virtual nudge that refreshes the video circuitry and can, in many cases that are similar to your problem, be all it takes to ensure that the video comes back on letting you get back to work/play ASAP, as it's supposed to. Since you're seeing signs of activity that the system is waking up, this should take care of the problem and help prevent you from inadvertantly triggering some unwanted action to occur for lack of a video signal! Good luck and I hope this will have been of some of help. |

| Guest | RE: Can't wake after sleep/Hib. I too just received a Dell and found hard drive was set at "turn off" in the ADVANCED SECTION of the Power Section in the control panel. Also reset in the power management to S1 from S3. To get to this power off your CPU. Power back on and at the blue screen hit F2 it will be in setup. Arrow dow to POWER MANAGEMENT and do the above change. Hope this helps. "CbtAbn" wrote: > After going into sleep mode nothing will wake machine up.
