Identifying Vista Versions

I recently installed Vista on a 64 bit AMD/ASUS system, however I can only
load x86 application versions, not x64 leading me to the conclusion that the
32-bit version was installed automatically. Winver is pretty much useless in
that area.

Two Questions:
1. How can I positively identify the version of Vista
2. What is the best means to rectify? I have Technet and Action Pack
subscriptions.

THX

RE: Identifying Vista Versions

Per Windows Help and Support:
You can open Welcome Center by clicking the Start button , and then clicking
Welcome Center.

It is displayed under 'system type: 32 bit' BUGGA! //nice help system!

Now, can I force a x64 upgrade onto Windows 64 bit or should I even bother?

Thx

Re: Identifying Vista Versions

Action pack seems to include x32 business upgrade only.
Technet claimed to have posted x64, but comments say it's not there:
http://blogs.technet.com/technetplus...oad-vista.aspx

They don't pack both versions on one DVD - the disks are different.
To see if you can get x64, try clicking where it says "sign in" for Chat:

Re: Identifying Vista Versions

Right click the tool bar>put newsgroups on it>click it>all of them are
listed and you can search for a term to narrow it. For version type winver
in run or hit windows and puase break key.

Re: Identifying Vista Versions

Michael,

That sounds correct. I reinstalled with a downloaded x64 version from
Technet and it is running in 64 bit mode.

THANKS FOR THE POST!

Re: Identifying Vista Versions

The champion chess program from eastern Europe wants 64 bit for
best performance, but I think it's Windows XP x64, not Vista yet.

You're welcome. For non-installation issues please post to general:
