| Guest | RE: Unable to install Vista Scotts, I'd call Dell Support again and tell them "The hell I can't!" I have to agree with Jane, the hard drive itself has absolutely nothing to do with this not being able to install, the controller of this hard drive is what causing the problem. Dell know to have this problem of going from one version of Windows to the next. I had a similar problem going from XP Media to XP Pro (clean install), so I have to slipstream XP CD with SP2 in order to install XP Pro. Thus far, you can't do that yet, you would have to install the controller manually as described by Jane. "ScottS" wrote: > Hello. I am unable to install Vista. | Guest | RE: Unable to install Vista I just got off the phone with Dell. They said it is currently IMPOSSIBLE to load Vista on any computer using RAID 1. Does anyone know if this is true? | Guest | RE: Unable to install Vista I'm having the same type of problem with a Dell XPS 600 nVida RAID controller. Right after Vista Home Premium completes its compatability check I get this message just like Scott " Close Windows installation and contact the device manufacturer for updated driver software for these devices: SCSCI and RAID controllers: WDC WD2500JS-75NCB2" I have the latest driver and Dell bios (A11) installed. I contacted Dell and after four techs the advice I was given was to format my hard drives - their advice even for printer problems (worthless). I've searched high and low (WDC, nVida, Dell) for an updated driver - no joy. MicroSoft wants my product ID (available after Vista is installed - geeze that's most helpful) to be able to post an email asking for help - haven't had time to call them - and my expectation is low. Anyone have an idea? - may help Scott out too. "ScottS" wrote: > I just got off the phone with Dell. They said it is currently IMPOSSIBLE to > load Vista on any computer using RAID 1. | Guest | Re: Unable to install Vista Microsoft isn't going to help you with a Dell hardware problem anyway. You will have to continue fighting with Dell or stop trying to Raid your system. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!
