RAID and Vista

After spending a LOT of time on the phone with Dell Support, they said that
it is not possible to load Vista on to a computer that uses RAID 1. Does
anyone know if this is true? I get an error message while trying to load
Vista that says I need an updated driver for RAID controllers:
HDS725050KLA360.

Thanks!

Re: RAID and Vista

Well, if you install Vista on a non-RAID drive, it will see and be able
to access the RAID array in my experience. Others have installed Vista
to RAID 0 arrays. Sometimes this works. If Dell support is BSing you,
you will have to accomplish your objective without their assistance.

Re: RAID and Vista

I have VISTA running on RAID on two different computers right now. The
problem is apparently that Dell does not have the updated drivers you need,
Vista will use RAID if you have drivers for it.

Re: RAID and Vista

Thanks for the reply...any ideas where I can get the drivers? Dell Customer
Support (an oxymoron) doesn't have it nor does Hitachi who makes the device.

Re: RAID and Vista

You have named the 500 GB sata hard drives, not the raid controller.

Re: RAID and Vista

Sorry, not a clue. Check with the manufacturer of your RAID adapter or
chipset.

Re: RAID and Vista

Scott,
I have a Dell XPS 400 with RAID 1 and I installed OEM Vista Business Upgrade
"clean" (dual boot with XP MCE) booting off the Vista CDs without any
issues. I did not have to load SATA RAID Controller drivers as Vista has the
latest Intel Matrix Storage drivers for the Intel DXP051 motherboard in the
install process.

What you provided appears to be the hard drive model number. If you have a
different Dell than what I have, Dell should have SATA RAID Controller
drivers available to download. I downloaded mine from Dell.
