Widescreen on standard monitor

When installing Vista on a Shuttle with DVI adapter, Vista sees my standard
19" monitor as a widescreen and the display only takes the centre of the
screen. Changing the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1280x760, completely fills
the display, but circles are still not round but elipses. Using the old VGA
connector, everything is normal (at 1280x1024). Any suggestions?
