Installation of Vista HomePremium


--I tried to install vista HP upgrade over xp pro sp2 but it tells me I cant
upgrade (greyed out) and would have to clean install which would be a
re-format but if I back my xp c drive can I re-install all my files over to
vista after installation

As you found out, you cannot upgrade XP Pro to any Vista Home versions. You
can copy your files over obviously, but you will have to reinstall all
applications.

upgrades if they don't work. Even the upgrade adviser saidit was ok to
upgrade.

The upgrade advisor is generic, it will let you know what
apps/drivers/hardware aren't compatible with Vista, it's up to you to
determine which versions of vista you can upgrade your specific XP version
to. XP is similar, I believe you can't upgrade a Windows 2000 install to XP
Home, only Pro.
