Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

I am trying to run the 64 Bit vista upgrade. It says it requires XP Service
Pack 2. I only have service pack 1. I cannot find the download for XP
service pack 2 64 bit. Has anyone seen it out there?!

Thanks,
Forest

Re: Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

There is no Service Pack 2 for XP 64 bit, and it sounds like you have the
32-bit version of Vista, not the 64-bit version.

My media says Microsoft Windows Vista Business x64 edition - for upgrade use
only.

The error I get is service pack 2 is required for upgrade.

Thanks,
Forest

Re: Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

Hello Forest,
How are you starting setup with that DVD? Are you booting from it? What
version of Windows is installed on your machine already?
Are you trying to run setup from inside an existing copy of Windows (32-bit
or 64-bit)?
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Re: Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

Darrell -

If you try to run Vista 64-bit Upgrade from inside of WXP 64-bit, you get an
error message saying that you can't upgrade because you need SP2. Obviously,
there is no SP2 for WXP-64. I haven't tried booting from the CD yet (I will
as soon as I post this note), but I doubt it will make a difference, and any
other ideas on how to actually upgrade from XP64 to Vista64 would be great.

Re: Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

Hello,
The error message is not worded properly.
It should state that upgrading from Windows XP x64 to Windows Vista X64 is
not supported.
The service pack version doesn't matter, there is no upgrade path.

Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Re: Upgrading XP 64 Bit to Vista

As I understand it, the "upgrade" from XP64 to anything is a clean install.
I have XP64 and did a dual boot install of Vista Ultimate 32 to a second
partition.
All is good.
NOTE: It is not possible to transfer files from XP64 to any version of
Vista. Easy transfer does not support 64 bit.
