Vista - Initial Start-up hanging?

sorry if this has been covered... hoping to find answers at 1am

just bought a new HP Pavillion DV6000 with Vista Home pre-installed.
Open package and instructions tell me to plug in and hit start button
and wait (for up to 1 hour) for initial set-up......

well..... been out for dinner.... return home and nothing happen....

went back out for movie.... return home and nothing happen.....

the system is turning on and off and on and off..... still nothing on
the screen and nothing new happening....

Anybody can offer enlightenments?

I hope you got it at Sams Club? If you did , just return it for another. They give six months to return for any reason! That should not happen, period

any updates, that seems kind of silly to me. Unless it is installing windows, which is pretty much what vista did for me except i was so excited to get it working that i sat in front of it and watched the progress bar and watched flicker on and off for 45 minutes, wow how delightful. And then i installed the Catalyst drivers for my 1950xpro ATI card and all i was getting was "No Signal" from my monitor...I was so happy that the future of computers was in ZERO VISABILITY! horray!
