Vista installation hangs at boot screen

Sorry if the way I structured this thread is wrong but I encounter one major problems when installing Windows Vista.

The version of Windows Vista is Home Premium x86.

The installation seems to hang after the 2nd reboot (that's after the completing installation and going to setup time/date, user acct and such). The computer will boot up to the boot screen where the green loading bar is moving but no hdd activity. I waited for 12 hours but to no improvement. I tried booting in safe mode but it says setup cannot continue in safe mode. In short, all the advance boot options I've tried, none worked.

My system specification are:
Compaq Presario SR1748CF
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 640 (3.2 GHz)
1GB PC4200 DDR2-SDRAM
200GB Samsung SP2004C SATA HDD
NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE w/ TurboCache 256MB

After some research, I tried going to safe mode again and Shift+F10 to bring up the Command Prompt and tried to replace the original vista Nvidia driver to Standard VGA driver but problem continues so I think it isn't with my graphics card or drivers.

I also attempted to install Windows Vista several times (clean/upgrade) but with same results.

Need help to solve this, searched many forums but didn't find anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If any additional information (like logs, etc) is needed, do tell me and I can try my best get them. Thanks in advance.

The attached is the only part in 'setupapi.dev.log' that fails (sorry if too long):
(basically, I think everything devices ended with "DIF_FIRSTTIMESETUP failed with 0xE000020E for class { xxx }")

I apologised for the log file to be in .zip because it's too big to be attached.

Attached Files
File Type: zip setupapi.dev.zip (4.0 KB, 13 views)

Re: Vista installation hangs at boot screen

Did you load the SATA drivers when asked to at the first screen?

My SATA hard drive was detected when Windows asked me, "Where do you want to install?" so I simply selected from the list and didn't load any SATA drivers.

By the way, if that's the problem, how do you search for SATA drivers? From chipset manufacturer, hdd manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer?

Thanks for replying, Wayne.

Re: Vista installation hangs at boot screen

I got the same problem as crazye_star. I think he tried to install from an OS
installed and not from the DVD. The install process copied the files,
expanded them and, when tried to reboot from Vista, the system shows the
black screen with the blank line, then the boot screen with the green line,
and finally this blue screen:
"STOP: C000021a {fatal error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a
status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x0010034c).
The system has been shut down."
When trying booting directly from the DVD the process is the same.
It seems that when the boot is initiated from the Wista OS (on HDD or on
DVD), the system hangs with this fatal error.
I disabled all the perpherals not needed in the setup, even the S-ATA
feature, keeping only the IDE channel for my IDE HDD and DVD: same result.
I think that the problem comes from the video card because this error
happend just when switching in graphical mode ...
My motherboard is an Aopen i865POEa-7IF with CPU Intel 2,8 and my graphic
adapter is a Geforce 6200 (AGP 8x) , as crazye_star !!!
I also read on this forum another posts where troubles appeared in systems
using this video card. However the package of this adapter announce "Cerified
for Windows Vista" !
Did somebody tried with another one ?

Well Marc, your problem not exactly the same as I don't have a blue screen but the boot screen just stayed there and the green loading moves and no more further. However I can go into safe mode and use command prompt. But you do have some similarities with my problem, so any kind souls who is able to provide some help to both of us?

Thanks.
