Used Easy Transfer Companion -- didn't work

I used WETC while installing Vista on an XP box. I had backed up most things
but missed a few, namely some files that were saved to a user's desktop. WETC
managed to copy several apps, but no old data appears. After reading several
threads, I'm beginning to believe that using only Companion was a mistake --
but it said it was a COMPANION to WET, to help make things easier somehow.
There are a lot of empty file folders where there should be user data.

Anyway, is there a chance to get any data back? The Vista install didn't
seem to reformat the HDD -- is it possible to use a file recovery program on
the disk? There must have been a big image file saved to the external drive
-- what's it called and where is it? Is there any way to get anything out of
that?

Look in the windows.old folder. All that was on the drive will be in that
folder. I think you need to run WET first to get the data and settings then
do WETC for the programs. WETC doesn't do both.
