Vista Home Premium Upgrade from Media Center

I have attempted to upgrade my media center pc 3 times without it completing
successfully. It gets all the way to "attempting to start computer for the
first time" and then goes into a final "completing install" screen. It sits
there with bouncing dots for about 5 minutes and then my monitor goes black.
The computer is still on and doing nothing at this point. I've left it for
an hour or hour to see if something happens. When nothing happened, I
manually powered off/on and then my only option is to restore XP (which has
worked fine).
The Vista Upgrade compliance tool says everything should be fine on my
machine, but obviously it's not.
What else do I look for to get my machine upgraded to the Retail Vista Home
Premium DVD I purchased?

Thank you,
Brian

Brian

Disconnect all external devices from the computer, including printers, any
USB devices (except keyboard and mouse), modems, cameras, scanners, etc. Try
the install again. There may be an incompatible device that the upgrade
advisor missed or one that needs an updated driver installed.

Re: Vista Home Premium Upgrade from Media Center

Hi,

The only USB device I have hooked up is my Keyboard/Mouse. Any other ideas?

Thank you,
Brian

Re: Vista Home Premium Upgrade from Media Center

Hi, Brian.

On some machines, it can take a lot more than an hour. Just let it keep
working - overnight, if necessary.
