Configuring the Start Menu Power Button?

In my exploration through my new Vista computer I stumbled upon a
program that controls what the Start Menu Power Button does.

I changed it and now I want to change it again, but I can't find where
the program is or how to get to it.

This is not the program for configuring the power switch for the box,
the hardware power button. This is for configuring that little software
power button on the bottom of the Start Menu. I know it exists. I've
played with it.

Where is that crazy thing?

Thank you for the help.

Richard..

Re: Configuring the Start Menu Power Button?

Hi Richard --

I like to start out easy. Can you tell me what a "start menu power button
is" in Windows--and Vista would be fine.

You mean when you click the start button--the round thing with the windows
logo over at the end of the task bar>the button that shuts down/restarts,
etc. ?

You want to hack it--and you want to do what with it or if that's not what
you're calling the start menu power button where is it? I've not heard that
term before.

Re: Configuring the Start Menu Power Button?

Richard--

It should have been Control Panel>Power Options>Choose What the Power
Options Do in Vista and if you search engine Menu Power Button you'll get
hits like the one in the post above. I'm sure they have tweaks beyond the
usual ones in the gui--and there are some in the registry.

Re: Configuring the Start Menu Power Button?

That's it. Hidden in the Advanced settings.
Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings.
Click on "Change advanced power settings"
Open "Power buttons and lid"
Open "Start menu power button"

This is what I was after.

Great, thanks,

Richard..

Re: Configuring the Start Menu Power Button?

It's here - Start>Control Panel>Power Options, choose which power plan you're
using and click change settings, on the refreshed window click "Change
advanced power options" and in the dialgoue that appears find "Power buttons
and lid" and change the behaviour for the Start menu Button to Hibernate,
Sleep or Shut Down
