Change the motherboard. Vista will say it needs to be reactivated. GO
through Activation which will fail and then choose the option to do it
by phone. Phone the number and explain to the person what you've just
done.

Is it a retail or OEM copy of Vista?

done apart from other suggestion of calling MS.

You're welcome.

Ok with a retail version you're good to go then. No, the change product key
option won't help when installing on new hardware. If the number of items
changed hits a certain level, then activation is triggered. The last time I
needed to activate because of a hardware change the automated system
wouldn't activate it so I was transferred to a person. The total time for
the call was 13 minutes.
