upgrade business to ultimate?

Hi,
I just bought a hp laptop with vista business preloaded. I wish to install
vista ultimate on the laptop but I am not sure if I need to do a clean
install or not. If it is possible to avoid a clean install I would prefer
because I can then keep all the other preloaded software. It seems that if I
do a clean install I cannot install the bundled software that came with the
laptop. Also, I already have a license to vista ultimate so it is ok if the
preinstalled vista license is lost. Thanks for input.

If the version of Vista Ultimate you have is an upgrade version, you'll
need to keep the Business key.

You should be able to just upgrade what you have without having to
clean install as long as the CD key you have for ultimate isn't an OEM
one.

Hi,

That is an allowable upgrade path for Vista Business, in fact it's the only
one.

Vista over Vista should be fine, particularly on a pre-install.

I was told by HP is if I did the upgrade, then the warrantee on software
support would be broken. They would not provide support. It may be the same
for you and your vendor.

You would be correct and you may not get the support to get the bundle back.

They should have give you a Recovery DVD or CD or you created one yourself
of the existing O/S.

All you need is the product key for the pre-installed O/S, which there
should be a MS sticker under the bottom of the laptop.
