| Guest | upgrade business to ultimate? Hi, I just bought a hp laptop with vista business preloaded. I wish to install vista ultimate on the laptop but I am not sure if I need to do a clean install or not. If it is possible to avoid a clean install I would prefer because I can then keep all the other preloaded software. It seems that if I do a clean install I cannot install the bundled software that came with the laptop. Also, I already have a license to vista ultimate so it is ok if the preinstalled vista license is lost. Thanks for input. Magnus |

You should be able to just upgrade what you have without having to clean install as long as the CD key you have for ultimate isn't an OEM one. -- Conor Light travels faster than sound. | Guest | Re: upgrade business to ultimate? Hi, That is an allowable upgrade path for Vista Business, in fact it's the only one. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Magnyz" <Magnyz@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5A9EA847-4B60-4939-ACAC-0E4D4C8F42A1@microsoft.com... > Hi, > I just bought a hp laptop with vista business preloaded. Vista over Vista should be fine, particularly on a pre-install. > If it is possible to avoid a clean install I would prefer > because I can then keep all the other preloaded software. I was told by HP is if I did the upgrade, then the warrantee on software support would be broken. They would not provide support. It may be the same for you and your vendor. > It seems that if I > do a clean install I cannot install the bundled software that came with > the > laptop. You would be correct and you may not get the support to get the bundle back. > Also, I already have a license to vista ultimate so it is ok if the > preinstalled vista license is lost. Thanks for input. They should have give you a Recovery DVD or CD or you created one yourself of the existing O/S. All you need is the product key for the pre-installed O/S, which there should be a MS sticker under the bottom of the laptop. |
