Re: Remapping keyboard keys in Vista?

Hi Mike,

Remapping is a function of the keyboard driver. If yours does not support
it, then you might try one of the many utilities found on the 'net.

Hi Mike,

Windows has a built-in facility to remap all and any key on the keyboad.
This is called the Scan Code Mapper. It was introduced in Windows 2000, and
is described here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...kscan-map.mspx

There is no user interface, apart from editing the registry manually.
Fortunately the Windows 2003 Resource Kit has a handy utility called
"Remapkey.exe", which will make the Registry changes for you. You can
download Remapkey as part of the Res Kit tools from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Warning: none of these Windows 2003 tools are tested or supported, on Vista!
However, Remapkey works fine, the Scan Code Mapper facility works exactly
the same in Vista as in previous versions. Only difference on Vista is you
will need to run it as Administrator (right-click the EXE, choose Run as
Administrator)

The Scan Code Mapper only takes effect once Windows is loaded - it won't
afffect the keyboard when you are in the BIOS,or any other pre-Windows boot
environment.

Hope it helps,
Andrew
