Vista - Vista disk d

Vista disk d

Hello my Vista Ultimate DVD says 32 bit software included only on disk. This
is a systems builder disk (OEM) and I payed I think ~$120 for it on it. Is
there a way to get a 64 bit DVD at discount? I would hate to pay another
~1$20-$200 for another disk. TIA!

Re: Vista disk d

Matt;
AFAIK, no.
One of the many reasons you paid less for your OEM than others pay for
retail.

Re: Vista disk d

I may be wrong - however all documentation states that "all" versions of
Vista are on the DVD and the version installed depends on the product key
provided with the DVD. If it does then probably an upgrade via a new
product key would be required (of couse at a cost!!).

Check the "size" of the DVD - it does not seem logical that it will be 2+
gigs if it contains only the 32 bit version.

Re: Vista disk d

"Versions" means home, business, ultimate, and so on, it does not mean both
32 and 64 bit.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ons/64bit.mspx

from: Microsoft's website

"Note: 64-bit media is included in the box with Windows Vista Ultimate."

Ok why isn't it on my disk again? This should also say "excluding OEM, VLMK
and system builder versions."

Re: Vista disk d

Matt;
Perhaps you missed this part:
"...as a retail, packaged product..."
That says it all since you have OEM.

Retail Ultimate comes with 2 DVDs, a 32 bit and a 64 bit DVD.
Home Basic, Home Premium and Business have the option of ordering the
64 bit DVD.
All 4 have the option of ordering CDs.

Also see:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/vistaget.htm

"Ok why isn't it on my disk again?"
Because you paid less for your OEM than others pay for their retail.

Well shoot I just thought I was getting a good deal. I didn't know it was
OEM. It said "System Builder" on the website. Besides I payed $200 not $120.
$200 compared to XP which was around $160. I figured "hey prices are about
the same..and I know I am a system builder so click click. done. All I want
is my EULA license revoked/nullified and I would like to be given a new key
and a cheap 64 bit DVD for shipping.

All I want is my money back because I am going to use that money to buy the
retail version. And since these DVD's don't cost much to make I am sure Bill
would take that deal any day of the week.

Re: Vista disk d

Ok well never mind. I guess the 64 bit version is $200 anyway. So buying the
retail version that has both for $400 is about the same.

Re: Vista disk d

Have you attempted to return it to the place where purchased?
It is a slim chance, but you can try.
It may help if you say you want to purchase retail.

Re: Vista disk d

Given your seeming expertise, I would advise you to make sure you are ready
for 64-bit. 64-bit drivers are required for all your hardware and some
32-bit programs will not work. And then, do you have any real reason to
switch to 64-bit? Large amounts of ram or native 64-bit programs?
